On 3 April 2018, the Poisons Act 1972 (Explosives Precursors)(Amendment) Regulations 2018 were introduced to make sulphuric acid a regulated explosives precursor. Offences relating to the acquisition, importation and supply of sulphuric acid above 15% weight by weight are effective from 1 July 2018. Offences relating to the possession and use of sulphuric acid above 15% weight by weight are effective from 1 November 2018.
Owing to the legislation above, after 30 June 2018, we can no longer supply a dry charged battery with a separate acid pack to consumers unless that consumer can produce an EPP (Explosives Precursor and Poisons) Licence in person at one of our Battery Centres. This will make it almost impossible for us to legally supply a dry battery and acid pack to someone that has ordered a motorcycle combi-pack or a dry charged classic car battery online.
Therefore all dry charged batteries (motorcycle combi-packs and hard rubber "classic car" batteries, etc) will have to be filled, charged and commissioned either on site or at a third party location close to the destination of the battery.
We will supply the battery in one of the following ways:
1. Filled and Charged at one of Shield’s Battery Centres for collection
2. Supplied dry and the receiver will need to take the dry battery to the nearest location that is able to fill and charge the battery. Note: a Third Party may make a charge for this service
3. Filled and Charged at a Third Party Location for collection
4. Filled and Charged and delivered by one of Shield's delivery vehicles if within their delivery area
As the solution will depend on the customer’s geographical location and specific circumstances, we would need to speak to the customer in order to determine which solution best suits.
NOTE: As the new legislation does not affect business sales, we are still able to supply batteries with acid packs on receipt of a written order on Company headed paper.
If in doubt, please either contact us for assistance or feel free to drop into any of Shields Battery Centres.
We apologise for all the inconvenience that this will cause – this is the result of legislation enacted by the UK Government that affects our entire industry. All reputable battery distributors are trying to work within the framework of the legislation.
Please be aware there is a lead time of 3 - 4 days for these products.
