Car Batteries

Car batteries are rechargeable energy sources that power your vehicle's electrical systems.

They're primarily responsible for:

• Starting the engine: Providing the initial burst of power to crank the starter motor and ignite the engine.
• Supplying power: Once the engine is running, the battery continues to supply electricity for various accessories like headlights, radio, and power windows.

Common types of car batteries:

• Lead-acid: The most common type, using lead plates and sulfuric acid to generate electricity.
• AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat): Similar to lead-acid but uses a special mat to absorb the electrolyte, reducing the risk of spills and improving performance.
• Gel: Uses a gel-like electrolyte, offering better vibration resistance and a longer lifespan.

Factors to consider when choosing a car battery:

• Size: The battery must fit securely in your vehicle's battery tray.
• Cold cranking amps (CCA): The ability to deliver power in cold temperatures.
• Reserve capacity (RC): The amount of time the battery can supply power with the engine off.
• Maintenance: By understanding the basics of car batteries and following proper maintenance, you can help ensure your vehicle starts reliably and operates efficiently.

When replacing a car battery it is important to keep to the original battery technology. If the vehicle has Start-Stop technology and is fitted with an AGM battery it MUST be replaced with an AGM battery of correct specification, the same goes for EFB batteries.

NEVER reduce the technology in an attempt to reduce costs as this will only result in premature failure of the replacement battery and will invalidate the warranty. If a standard flooded battery is fitted to a Start-Stop vehicle it will most definitely fail leading to a loss of vehicle functions (including Start-Stop).
